Kai Xu, MD

Clinical Professor of Medicine

Dr. Kai Xu is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and a hospitalist at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified in clinical informatics and serves as a core faculty member of the Clinical Informatics Fellowship program.

Dr. Xu serves as the Associate Chief Health Information Officer for Penn Medicine and as the Chief Medical Information Officer for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Hospital, with a special focus on inpatient electronic health record implementation, optimization, and clinical workflow. He is the inpatient lead for the Epic Physician Builder program at Penn. 

Prior to joining Penn in 2010, Dr. Xu completed a residency in General Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He graduated from Swarthmore College and earned his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
